Accurate sleep monitoring at home

The current method for accurately monitoring sleep, a polysomnography, involves the patient sleeping in a sleep clinic, covered in electrodes. With obvious drawbacks to this method, researchers are looking for cheaper, lightweight alternatives that interfere less with patients’ sleep. One such alternative is ear-EEG, here, Dr. Kaare Mikkelsen tells us about this form of sleep monitoring and his research published in BioMedical Engineering OnLine.

Here, Tove Frisch, a member of the Committed to Cure coalition, shares her thoughts from The World Hepatitis Summit – a joint initiative from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA). This year, the summit was held over three days (1–3 November) in São Paulo, Brazil.

Community-based interventions to improve antenatal care uptake and quality Tanzania

Shinyanga is a rural Tanzanian region with an exceptionally high HIV prevalence, located near Lake Victoria and the border with Uganda. Recognising the acute importance of improving and expediting the efforts against mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Shinyanga, World Vision Tanzania, supported by the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, implemented a community-based project to increase antenatal care quality and uptake. This two-year project ran from January 2014 to April 2016.
