Health Information Science and Systems (HISS) has published its inaugural articles with BioMed Central.  HISS  is a multidisciplinary journal that aims to use technologies in computer science to assist in disease diagnoses, treatment, prediction and monitoring through the modelling, design, development, visualization, integration and management of health related information.

HISS is edited by Yanchun Zhang who highlights in his launch editorial the broad geographical spread of the authors and hence the wide reach the journal hopes to have, “The first articles published in HISS comprise four papers (in addition to this Editorial) and the authors are from Singapore, Hungary, Australia, USA and China. These initial articles illustrate how bioinformatics is applied in healthcare and medical management, and highlight some of the emerging research in analysis, sharing and delivering of medical images.”

The launch articles include a review of the state-of-the-art techniques that may address the problem of translating the human genomic information into phenotypes that can be used to create personalized treatments.  In addition, other articles address topics ranging from systems to display medical images across multiple devices and media, to improving ultrasound images and also a software article describing an iPad interface with the KEGG molecular database.

You can find out more about the journal by visiting the website, where you can also submit a manuscript.
