Agriculture & Food Security – a new journal launched today!

1

According to the United Nations’ Demographers, the global population exceeded seven billion at the end of October 2011.  Ensuring sustainable food production to provide adequate sustenance and nutrition for everyone therefore continues to be a matter of significant and urgent import.

In March, the Commission on Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change published their report on ‘Achieving Food Security in the Face of Climate Change’.  The international Commission of experts, chaired by Sir John Beddington FRS, recommended seven key policy changes and actions that are needed in order to achieve food security in the face of climate change.

One of the Commissioners, Molly Jahn, joins with Malcolm Elliott and Magdy Madkour as a joint Editor-in-Chief of the new open access journal Agriculture & Food Security.  The journal launched today as a venue for research addressing the challenge of global food security, with a particular focus on sustainable agriculture and food systems that better address local, regional, national and/or global food and nutritional insecurity.  The Editors are supported by an eminent international editorial board, whose expertise cover the broad range of topics included in the journal, from basic science to informed government policy.

The first articles published in Agriculture & Food Security set the stage for the research we plan to publish in future, and are of interest and accessible to both researchers and the wider community.  The journal focuses on innovations in agricultural and food systems towards food security, for the developing world and for sustainability in the developed world.

You can find out more about the journal, register for new content updates and submit your research online.
